The service
One fitter accountable for your whole bathroom
A bathroom fit sounds simple until you count the trades involved: removal and disposal, plumbing, electrics, plastering, tiling, fitting and finishing. When each trade is booked separately, gaps appear between them, and you end up being the project manager in your own home.
As an owner-led bathroom fitter in Haywards Heath, John Martin leads every job personally. He uses an electrical contractor for electrics and brings in trusted plasterers and tilers as each stage needs them, sequences the work, and checks the finish himself. You have one number to call, and one person who answers for the result.
John has over 10 years' experience fitting bathrooms across Mid Sussex, from family bathrooms and en-suites to bath to shower conversions. Customers regularly mention his honest, non-pushy advice on layout and finishes, and how clean the site is left at the end of each day.

What happens if you wait
What a poorly managed fit really costs
Most bathroom problems aren't caused by bad products. They come from rushed preparation, poor sequencing and nobody owning the finish.
Hidden leaks
Badly made joints behind walls and under floors can leak slowly for months, damaging joists and ceilings below before you notice a stain.
Weeks of delay
When the electrician, plasterer and tiler are booked independently, one late trade pushes everyone back, and you're left without a working bathroom.
Paying twice
Cutting corners on preparation means tiles crack, sealant fails and fittings loosen. Fixing it later usually means stripping out good work too.
Common mistakes homeowners make
- Choosing the cheapest quote without asking who actually does the work
- Buying fittings before the layout and pipe routes are confirmed
- Ignoring creaky or soft floors before new tiling goes down
- Accepting boxed-in pipework when it could be concealed
- Having no single person responsible when trades disagree

In detail
What a full bathroom fit involves
Understanding each stage helps you compare quotes properly and know what you're paying for.
Strip-out and disposal
The existing suite, tiles and, where needed, wall boards are removed carefully to protect the surrounding rooms. Waste is cleared from site rather than left in your garden or driveway.
Floor and wall preparation
This is where long-lasting bathrooms are made. Floors are checked for movement and creaks and strengthened where necessary; walls are made flat and sound so tiles sit level and grout lines stay crisp.
First fix plumbing and electrics
New supply and waste pipes are routed to suit the new layout, ideally concealed within walls or floors. Electrical work such as lighting, extractor fans and shaver points is handled by John's electrical contractor.
Plastering and boarding
Walls are boarded or plastered to suit the finish, tiled walls, painted walls or a mix of both, giving a solid, square surface to work on.
Tiling and second fix
Wall and floor tiles are laid, then the toilet, basin, vanity, bath or shower, taps and accessories are fitted, connected and sealed.
Family bathrooms, en-suites and cloakrooms
The same approach applies whether it's a large family bathroom, a compact en-suite or a downstairs cloakroom. Smaller rooms often need more careful planning around doors, windows and existing soil stacks, which John assesses at the site visit.
